2024’s Best Self-Storage Facilities in St. Louis

1. Life Storage

What we love about Life Storage is that they’re all about giving you options. They have 14 facilities in the Greater Saint Louis Area - from Florissant all the way to Fenton - but our favorite pick is their facility on Lemay Ferry Road. It comes with a free truck rental when you rent a storage unit to help you get moved into your unit easily, and did we mention they’re cheap? At $42/month for a climate-controlled 5x5 on the ground level, it almost sounds too good to be true. No extended commitments here, they keep their contracts month-to-month. Don’t take our word for it though - the Lemay Ferry Road location is their top rated in the Missouri area with 4.9/5 stars! (read the reviews here).

Life Storage takes access and security seriously. Their facility is open 24-hours a day, which means you don’t have to build your schedule around when your storage facility is open. Security, though, is their top priority: not only do you need an electronic access code to get past the gate, but their surveillance cameras ensure that your stuff is always in a safe environment.

As a bonus, when you need a little bit of extra help, their front office has you covered. Their staff has a reputation for being as friendly and nice s can be, and if you need extra materials you can purchase your boxes & supplies without having to make an extra stop! This location serves Mehlville, Lemay, and Oakville, and you can check out this location and the rest of their self-storage facilities in Saint Louis here.

2. A-American Self Storage

A-American Self Storage is not just another storage company (as their slogan so aptly points out!). They’re conveniently located in Downtown Saint Louis so you don’t have to go out of your way -- but you won’t even notice the price difference! Their units get as cheap as $46/month for a 4x4. They also offer small units so you don’t have to pay for the extra space if you’re only storing a few items. Only minutes away from Washington University, they’re a great option for students looking to store during the summer, too.

The front office is open during all facility access hours, so there’s always some available to answer your question or give you a hand. They’re even open on Sundays to help you out during the weekend, and it’s clear their customers love them: they’ve got all 5 stars on Yelp (read the reviews here)! They’re big on customer service through and through: your first month rent comes with a free truck, you can pay your bills online, and if you need to store your car, they have vehicle storage options too.

We love the special promotion they’re running right now: 50% off of your first 3 months, we suggest you take advantage before it’s gone! This location serves Forest Park, Botanical Heights, The Tiffany, The Hill, Shaw, and Compton Heights, with easy access from Washington University, Webster Groves, and Clayton.

3. Extra Space Storage

Extra Space Storage is one of those tried and true facilities that everyone knows they can count on. They have 10 facilities across Saint Louis, from Ellisville to Florissant. Our go-to Extra Space facility in Saint Louis, though, is their centrally-located Gravois Road location, home of the $29/month 5x5 unit (on the first floor, too!). Yes, you read that right - a 5x5 unit for less than $30 a month! It’s also climate controlled and indoors so weather is never a problem.

What’s great about this location is that you’re not sacrificing price for location. They’re conveniently located next to your main quick stops: you can grab coffee at Starbucks, get a workout at Club Fitness, your basic necessities at Walgreen’s - all within walking distance of your storage unit.

Extra Space’s attention to detail will keep you refreshed. When it comes to facility management, they are on it. Lights are automatic, and if one goes out, it’s replaced quickly. One thing that every Extra Space customer will tell you: their facilities are well kept and clean - down to their conveniently-located bathrooms! We love it when storage facilities make sure that you’re taken care of even after you’ve become a customer.

They also cover all your basic requirements of security and access: they’re open late 7 days a week, closing at 10pm nightly - but if you want 24/7 access, just ask! Their gate requires an access code, and they have 24-hour video surveillance to make sure your stuff is safe. They’ve taken extra care to make sure getting around is easy: from the wide aisles to accommodate moving trucks, to sturdy moving carts to make hauling stuff easy, to convenient elevators to help you move between floors. They even have a recycling center on site if you want to get rid of your paper waste.

This facility serves Affton, Wilbur Park, Grantwood Village, Marlborough, and Lakeshire. Click here to check out their other locations.

4. EZ Storage

It’s all in the name! EZ Storage is exactly that: they make storage as easy as can be. No upfront deposit is required, rentals come with a free move-in truck, and their units go as low as $35/month. Even though their Crestwood location is easily accessible from main streets, if you can’t make it to your unit they’ll take your deliveries for you so you don’t have to receive them in person. They’re right next door to two gas stations so you’ll never have to go out of your way if you’re in a rush.

They really do make sure storage works for you no matter who you are. With a 10% discount for active military personnel, they’re the ideal option for someone being deployed overseas or training away from home. They also have a senior citizen discount, to ease empty-nesters and downsizers clear the clutter at home. Their business solutions are designed to suit all types of industries, from real estate to retail to pharmaceutical. They even have solutions for students: pay month-to-month to take it semester by semester, and allow you to rent with a friend to split the cost of renting a unit.

With Saint Louis temperatures, climate controlled storage is really important to a lot of shoppers. They take it a step further with dehumidification in addition to climate control, and they even mention being FDA-compliant for storing pharmaceuticals and samples. You can store your jet skis, ATVs, and motorcycles when the weather’s not good - or store them year round if you need to.

Security is no joke - all units are alarmed and require a private code, and that’s on top of the 24-hour video surveillance that already covers the facility. Check out this facility and three others here.

5. Public Storage

Public Storage is unquestionably the nation’s best-known storage provider, to the extent that it’s become a household synonym for self-storage. They have 16 units in the Greater Saint Louis area, but our pick is the Gravois Road location between Afton and Wilbur Park because if it’s extra cheap storage units: $1 rent for the first month! (Of course with any promotion, make sure you read the fine print!)

The advantage of going with such a well known brand is you know what to expect: they’ve been in the business for a long time and they’ve learned how to serve their customers effectively. For example, you can sign-up easily, the facility is always kept clean, and they go beyond the typical storage unit allowing storage for RVs and vehicles as well. They have both indoor and drive-up units to suit all your access needs.

The Gravois Road location is known for its friendly staff - Kayla and Nicole are customer favorites - and it’s managed to keep nearly a 5-star rating with over 100 reviews on Google. People literally look forward to paying their bills so they can talk to the staff, as one reviewer notes: “She goes above and beyond.. I look forward to my visits when payment is due.” They’ll help you get the right sized unit if your stuff doesn’t fit, and resolve questions about pricing and paperwork as they come up.

This facility serves Afton, Lakeshire, Wilbur Park, Marlborough, and Bella Villa, and to see their other listings in Saint Louis click here.

6. Storage Inn

What we love about this facility is the mom & pop feel of it. They have a great location in South Saint Louis on Landsdowne Ave between Bevo & the Southampton, and they have a fantastic special right now where you only pay $1 for your first month of storage (as always, we encourage you to read the fine print for deals like this!) In general, they’re moderately priced, with a typical month’s rent starting at $52/month for a 5x5, but they make sure the rest of your needs are met: they have no admin fees, and your first month comes with a free lock for your unit!

They’re easy access, open 7 days a week as early as 6am and closing at 9pm, and they have a 24-hour security gate to make sure unwanted visitors can’t come in. They have great amenities on-site, like dollies and carts you can borrow to lug things around, and they’ll accept deliveries on your behalf too if you can’t be there in person.

The front desk is ridiculously dedicated - to the point where, as one reviewer points out, some of their staff lives on site, so you can make sure your stuff is always in good hands and there’s always keeping an eye on the facility.

This facility serves Northampton & Southampton, Bevo, Princeton Heights, Tower Grove South, and Southwest Gardens.

7. Beyond Storage

The first thing we notice about Beyond Storage is that it’s surprisingly beautiful. The facility is extremely well kept, with colorful walls, a well furnished office, and accents that make you feel like you’re in a professional place, not a warehouse. The comfortable setting does come at a slightly higher price, though, with units starting at $59/month it’s a bit more expensive than the other facilities we looked at (but you do get your first month free!), but we were so impressed by the quality of the facility and the service that we had to include it.

You definitely get what you pay for though: all of their units are climate controlled, which with Saint Louis climate is especially important. All of their units are kept secure: in addition to advanced security features, they have surveillance cameras all over the property, and the property itself is fenced & gated. They have just about everything you need on site: extra boxes and supplies, dollies & hand-carts, a digital 24-hour kiosk, and they even have a conference room! It’s centrally located in the Saint Louis Metro West area, granting easy access from Route 100 and easily accessible from St. Louis University.

This facility serves the Maplewood, Richmond Heights, Brentwood, Rock Hill, and Webster Groves, The Hill and Lindenwood Park neighborhoods.
